What is Print-on-Demand?
A quick description of print-on-demand technology:
Each site (Society6, Zazzle, or a similar site) offers high-quality goods printed to order in the United States (or wherever each site is based), ensuring the best looking products and customer service possible. This process allows the artist (yours truly) to focus on creating new work and leaves the production and handling to the experts. It also means you’re helping to support independent artists by purchasing unique designs you won’t find in any brick-and-mortar store.
How products are served:
First, the artwork is uploaded to the design site’s servers at a high resolution, resulting in optimal color quality with large image files to accommodate a range of product types. The artist selects which items to place their designs on, then sets them for sale, making a commission from each product purchased. As they’re ordered, designs are printed onto the chosen products so manufacturers don’t have to mass-produce items or stock them in a warehouse, reducing waste all around.
